Amazing Chair Makeover {plus GIVEAWAY}

Note: This giveaway is now closed.

Winner will be announced Friday Feb. 10, 2012.

A few days ago I was contacted by Simply Spray Fabric Paints to do a product review.

I was so excited!! I’ve talked about painting upholstery on this blog before but I had yet to try it myself. Simply Spray Upholstery Fabric Paint has been featured on the Today Show and is the ONLY non-toxic aerosol paint for upholstery.

The victim…

This poor guy has been sitting in the garage for a while now waiting for an opportunity to shine!

I gave the fabric a good scrubbing with some soapy water,

and cut off a few odd strings on the back rest. I set it outside in the sun for a couple days to make sure it was good and dry.

Since it is going to be in Jocelyn’s room and she loves purple I decided to go with theplum.

It only took a couple coats of paint before I got the perfect shade of purple.

{*Tip – I used straight pints to pin the piping back so that I could spray in the creases.}

I then painted the wood a bright white.

And the results…

And here is a side-by-side view of the two photos.

Jocelyn LOVES it!!!

And so do I.

The paint did not stiffen the fabric at all!!! This was so much easier than re-upholstering the chair and it is the perfect addition to Jocelyn’s room. I’ve got a few more can’s of paint and a few more projects on the way that I can’t wait to share with you. This stuff seriously is amazing!!

Upholstery paint is the perfect option for transforming sofas, chairs, curtains, carpets, lampshades, and even place mats.

Simply Spray also has Puff Paint, Stencil Spay, Spray Blood, and many more.

You can find Simply Spray Fabric Paints on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

  1. I have an older upholstered rocker chair which has faded over the years from a dark burgandy to a blah rust color. I would love to use the upholstery paint to freshen it up with the dark brown color, perhaps maybe even the plum for a bright pop!

  2. Liked Simply Spray on Facebook
really liking some ideas popping up in my head 🙂

  3. What color do you suggest for the dining room chairs? I asked you on your facebook page too…???? Hmmmm..mmmm…

  4. that stuff sounds like a very nice product for those fun re-used/ refurbished DIY fabric items.

  5. I have a glider rocker that is 17 yrs old (bought when i was pregnant) and in need of a makerover. My son wants it when he moves out but since he is joining the military right out of school it will be a while so he wants me to "update" it to match his room but upholstering a chair is expensive..

  6. Liked Simply Spray Fabric Paints on Facebook!
I really want to win this paint! lol…

  7. I ADORED the journal on their site. I would probably start off with some T shirt redos, then a journal, then redo a scooby doo computer chair. So many possibilities. How many cans do you think it would take to redo a love seat? 🙂

  8. Don't have Twitter but would follow if I did. Does this count as an entry? 🙂

  9. I actually don't have anything in particular that I would use this on,but I love picking things up at garage sales and thrift stores, and I'm sure I'd find something awesome to fix up!

  12. I have two awesome mid century modern chairs that need some love in my office. The "bones" are great but the fabric needs some help!

  13. I bought this vintage living room set for my first home. If I win I would love to work some magic on these pretties.

  14. I would love to try the upholstery paint for my office chair… I've been thinking of re-upholstering it… but this would be so much easier. I might like to try the burnt orange.

  15. I would love to use the upholstery paint for an antique couch and chair in my formal living room that was given to me by my grandparents.

  16. Oh my goodness – this product looks GREAT! I'd love to try it on an old chair we just got from my husband's grandpa's house. 🙂

  17. I have an old upholstered chair that's a fairly "clash-y" shade of green at the moment. I would use the plum so it matched the rest of our living room!

  18. I love my couch and recliner in my living room, but it has faded due to sun shining in. The fabric is still good, just faded. This sounds like an excellent way to perk it back up to its original appearance.

  19. Eager to "paint" cushions on glider rocker for 4th grandchild. Other three grandchildren were rocked in same chair but now cushions are faded and needing help. Thanks.

  20. Curious about this product working on microfabrics? Going to go a little more research!.but would love to paint my oversized couches!

  21. Visited the site… How cool is this stuff? So stoked to know about it. I think the tye dye effect stuff will be fun for my teenage cousin to do with us. But as for this give away… My dad got some super rad chairs from the TAJ MAHAL when they were remodeling ( he's a carpenter ) and they are really cool but the color is this faded mute pink that is so wrong for how cool the frame of the chair is… It needs a nice bold pop of colour. Thats what i'd do if I won.

  22. Simply Spray has been FB "liked" and I mentioned that I found their product through your site. ( which is pretty awesome! Where have you been all my life? )

  23. This product is what I've been waiting for! I have dining room chairs that have been put through the ringer and back by my children! Having this paint would totally allow me to freshen up the look of my table! Having 3 kids, budget is always an issue! Where can you purchase this?
