16 uses for recycled pallets

Why is it that whenever you are looking for something you can never find it, yet whenever you are not looking for it you find it everywhere?

I’m on the search for some pallets.

It was only a few months ago that I saw an add in the paper giving away a ton of pallets.

I saw them in alley ways, laying on the side of the road, next to dumpsters.

Yet, now that I am actively looking for a few pallets, I can’t find a single one.

What would I want with a pallet?

Here are a few ideas.

Toddler bed

Headboard

Garden

Potting Bench

Outdoor Chair

Coffee Table

Accent Wall

Retreat

Lounge Chair

Pet Bed

Photo Display

Wine Tasting Room Storage

Bookshelf

Floor

Planter

Porch Swing

What would you do if you had a pallet?

  1. I totally know how you feel! I have been in search of pallets the past few weeks to make shelves for my son's bedroom. Of course, I can't find any…ugh. When we least expect it some will turn up, right?! Btw, new follower 🙂

    1. Try local moving companies. We receive our packing material on pallets and the company won't take them back so they sit on our dock until we find a way to get rid of them.

  2. I thought of an awesome idea last week: make a STAGE in my daughter's room!! We have joked that she needs a stage because she's the most energetic 3 year old ever and always stands on things to sing or dance. Then I found a blog where a lady did it for her son.. kriciapalmerhome.blogspot.com/2011/07/diy-kids-stage.html So now I have some more ideas on how to make the idea come to life and be more awesome! Now I'm just hoping my mom's husband can get me a couple of pallets so I can do it!

  3. @~Lisa~ Oh my, I can't believe I did not see that one. That is amazing. I would love you to send me a pic when you stage is complete.

  4. I fortunately live down the street from a small shop that disposes of these weekly!! They set them out by the road and they are free to take. I have 4 different sizes just waiting for my inspiration to kick in. Next summer I am going to make 2 planters and a potting bench.
    Great post!!

  5. I love pallets, too! Here is what I did with the first pallet I got. And I have another one outside waiting to be used. 🙂

  6. Definitely will share it with you! We still have to put our laminate floors in the rest of the bedrooms before I start that project but I'm hoping in the next couple months! Pallets look like so much fun!

  7. I know this comment won't make me very popular but I am concerned with the growing pallet use for inside homes. Having worked in a shipping dept using tons of pallets I guess I am more aware of the frequent use of toxic chemicals that are used on pallets that stay with the wood for life than most folks. Even the ones that are heat treated can carry pathogens, 10% of those used in the grocery industry tested positive for e Coli. Children are especially susceptible to the pahtogens and chemicals, when I first saw the toddler bed I cringed but kept my mouth shut, thinking it is none of my business. See the dark spots on the wood, in my experience that is from product spilling onto the pallet in transit and who knows what that was. I don't say this to be a negative nellie but my concern is genuine. Really, really think twice about using used or even new pallet wood in your home. I truly do not wish to annoy anyone but if I see an area of concern I feel compelled to at least give a fair warning.

  8. Oh my goodness! There are about three pallets sitting on the footpath at the end of my street! I'm leaving right this second!

  9. @Backwoods Cottage Pam You are not negative nellie at all. Thank you so much for this info. I HAD NO IDEA!! I would definitely like to do some more research on this and post a warning note in the post. Thank you.

  10. I saw a pallet shelf on Pinterest that I've been nagging the hubby to make. I think it'd be perfect for holding garden & critter goodies on our covered porch.

Happy New Year! I was going through my emails and realized that you followed me a little while ago and I never returned the favor so I came over to follow you back! Sorry for the delay!

  12. I love pallet furniture! My kids are always trying to create something with old pallets. So far they have made lots of small toys. My husband has made a nice microwave stand and a shoe holder with them. Soon he will be making a dog house (I hope)

  13. Oh so much fun!!! I work for a family company and we sell fireplaces, brick, stone and more – and all of this stuff is shipped to us on PALLETS!!!! Oh i am going to have soooo much fun!!!!

  14. I'm loving all of the pallet ideas you've gathered. I've made a few pallet projects. Thank you to linking up to Sew Woodsy last week. Your pallet round up was the Reader's Choice for the week.

  15. I'd just purchased a twin size mattress for my spare room. Also acquired two pallets to place the mattress on. I am planning on giving it a really funky color to add pizzas to the room. As soon as Iam done with the project, I will post pictures.

  18. This DIY is so cool! Love the pallet headboard! We have four pallets, I'm not sure where they came from, and I have been trying to figure out what to do with them. Thank you so much now I can put them to good use and if I need a few more I can get them from this place right here in Cambridge. bramptonpallet.com/pallet_products.html

  19. That potting table is a great idea. I have been trying to think of a fun table for my husbands projects. We may have to look into this. It has a fun rustic feel to it. Who knew that there could be so many uses for pallets?

  20. Wow, they did some pretty crazy stuff with these pellets. I heard about pallet headboards but not about the many different kinds of furniture you could do with pallets. I think these ideas were really cool and I look forward to making some of these products.

  21. I am an artist and I started using pallets when canvases became too expensive. People just love them. I simply ask my friends on facebook if they know where I can get pallets when I need them and someone always knows where I can find some for free. If the pallets are in good shape, stores can get money for them…so always ask before taking them from a business. coloind.com

  22. I love all of these creative ideas. I never would have thought to repurpose pallets as furniture. I think I've found my next home improvement project.
