6. Quit wasting time sorting laundry. Buy one laundry basket per family member. Assign each family member a day of the week and wash only THEIR laundry on that day. Once the clothes are dry, place the clothes back into the basket and place in their room. Each family member is responsible for sorting and putting away their own clothes. And yes! Even my 2 year old can put her clothes in the washer (it’s front load washer), transfer them from the washer to the dryer, Take them out of the dryer and sort them. We are still working on folding but I did teach her to lay her clothes flat so that they don’t wrinkle as much. All I have to do is add soap and turn on the machines. (Please be sure to supervise young children around the washer and dryer as they can easily lock themselves inside.)

7. Get rid of the gap in the back of your pants by threading elastic through them. Head on over to Patchwork Posse for the full tutorial. Works for kids pants too.

8. To reheat pizza without getting the crust soggy, place the pizza in a nonstick skillet. Heat on low until warm.

Once everything is well mixed cut off a small tip from one of the bottom corners of the bag and squeeze the contents into your egg white. Just toss the bag once you are done for easy cleanup.

16. If you have some eggs that are about to go bad, have your own chickens that produce more than your family could ever eat, or they are on sale so you buy way more than you need. Don’t just let them go to waste. You can freeze them! You can mix them up and place 2-3 in a Ziploc bag. Lay them down flat in the freezer then stack them upright once they are frozen to save on space. You can also crack a dozen of them into a bowl, beat them (I was told not to freeze eggs unless they are mixed/beaten not sure why but I mix them anyways) then poor them into an ice cube tray. One cube is equal to one egg. Once they freeze. dump them into a large Ziploc bag or freezer safe container.

17. For picture frames with two holes, hang them evenly and easily by placing a single strip of masking tape over the back covering the two holes. Mark each end of the tape where the holes are located for hanging the frame. Take the tape off and place it on your wall. Make sure it is level then hammer a nail in at each pen mark. 22. Don’t store medicine in you medicine cabinet!! Due to frequent water usage (i.e. showers, baths, hand washing) bathrooms often contain a lot of moisture in the air. This can greatly shorten the life of your medicines, causing them to go bad long before the expiration date listed on the bottle. Medicines last longer when kept in a dry, dark and slightly cool location such as the pantry or bedroom closet.

  1. WOOOOOW,what a great list of tips,I pinned it!

    Thank you

  2. Wow!! Thank you so much for the excellent tips! I'm headed to get the baby powder now for my squeaky floor. What a great idea. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great weekend.

  3. Oh my goodness what awesome tips!! I am so glad that I discovered your blog and look so forward to reading more of your posts!! Thanks!

  4. Was very impressed with these tips. It was great reading them and learned some things

  5. Great tips except for #2 Baby powder for squeaky floors… Left a slippery white film all over my hardwood floors that I had to mop twice to remove. My cat wasn't too happy when he smelled the baby powder fragrance on the floor and when he tried to burn out he slipped in the process. Could be a slipping hazard for animals & small children. Be careful. And after all that, my floors still squeak.

    1. Use chalk or dish soap or candle wax….after applying to floor, wipe excess off the floor with a damp rag followed by a dry rag.

  6. Most of these are great (a few are wives tales, but don't hurt anyone).

Here's another tip to go with your #54: Use TinEye.com to search for an image. When I want to repin something from Pinterest but the original pin has a bad source link, I use TinEye to find the original photo—that way I can pin it correctly. It's not as extensive as Google so sometimes it can't find things, but it usually does a pretty good job. The Google tip you gave searches for the name of the photo (file name), so if someone's renamed it—as Pinterest does—TinEye can be a huge help (looks for the image, not the file name).

  7. Wow! What a great collection of tips! I'm going to have to bookmark this to come back and finish reading them all. Thanks! 🙂

  8. Superb!!! I have never seen such an extensive list on home living. I've not only bookmarked and placed them on top of bookmark bar am also sharing them with my friends quite often. I couldn't thank you enough for the tip about making a schedule for washing clothes. It has made my life incredibly easy as I've assigned each kid their day and basket rather than washing each one's clothes separately myself.

  9. What a great collection of tips! Thanks for featuring my picture hanging technique.

  10. In regards to "#70. The lines on a Solo cup are measurement marks." It is false. Snopes.com confirms with Dart Container Corporation. snopes.com/food/prepare/solocups.asp 🙂

    1. Just tried and the measurements are CORRECT try it youself, is the easiest way to check. I used a RED SOLO CUP .

    2. Yup, the company that makes them said the lines were not intended for measurements, but they are more than happy if you want to use them that way, and that if any lines correspond to any measurements its just a happy accident.

    3. Except that you have to remember Snopes is an opinion site. It is run by only two people. So they can be wrong also. Try it out yourself.

  11. Oh my!! This is one of the best finds. I LOVE, LOVE all of the tips! Thanks so much!!

  12. Great list! As for number 45, it is the copper in a pool that makes your hair green, not the chlorine. I only point this so people won't wrongly reduce pool chlorine when the kid's hair turns green. You actually need a new algaecide.

  13. For the google one, if you open the second tab in Google Image instead of google, it will search for the image instead of the file name when you drop it in the search box. Also, the spotting differences one was amazing. and super awesome.

  14. Just have to comment on the elevator tip: I hope it works. What about times when YOU are in a terrible hurry for some truly important reason and kids or some jerk has gotten in and pushed all the buttons? For example, at our timeshare this happens all the time. I've even seen adults think it is funny to push all the buttons. I certainly will remember this trick and use it judiciously.

  15. Such clever cheap and incredibly useful tips – thanks for sharing these.I think the spaghetti "match" is super clever

  16. I would suggest removing the tip about the red solo cup measurements. That is just an urban myth and the maker of solo cups says that information is not true. You can look it up on snopes.com. Snopes is an excellent resource to see if information is just an old wive's tale or urban myth. You can't believe everything you read on the internet.

    1. It shouldn't be used for scientific measurements obviously but it is pretty dang close (try it, seriously) and works for imperfect measurements like liquor.

    2. This I believe was suppose to be all in good fun..but wow guess one also would need a sense of humor…

    3. Actually as most baking works on ratios as long as you are consistently using the same ratios you should actually be OK. I had a relative that used a tea cup as a measure and she was a good cook.

  17. thanks for featuring the gap in the pants tutorial! I love the collection of goodies too.

  18. WOW!!! I SPOTTED THE STAR!!! CRAZY! What a neat trick! Thanks for all the great tips! Don't worry about rude remarks. Birds always pick at the best fruit! Thanks again!!!

  19. Thank you for putting so many useful and relevant tips in the one place, I was actually looking for any tips on how to clean burned pots, didn't find anything, but got caught up in all the other useful stuff. So thank you again.

    1. You can also fill the burned pot with dirt from the garden (in essence, just bury the pot). The grinding over time from the dirt erodes the burned pot and makes it sparkly clean. My mum taught me this and I scoffed at her, but then I tried it. Really works. However, it takes about 30days. I have about 3 pots, and if I burn one, I just go out, bury it, forget about it… till I burn another one. Then I remember and go switch! Lol. Then you rinse and voila. Sparkly clean.

    2. Try putting some dish soap and water in the pan and boiling it for a few minutes. The burnt stuff comes off when you wash it (after the pan has cooled down for a couple minutes)

  20. Tip #18 is the only way i can get my plants to grow, in fact, i planted morning glory seeds, sweet william seeds, and nasturium seeds several months ago and they wouldn't sprout no matter how often i watered them. Then one day it rained and flooded the tray they were sitting in. Most of the seeds sprouted within the next couple days. The morning glories have really thrived on this watering method. They just take the water in as they need it i guess. This doesn't work for ALL plants though. Some of them need more or less water than others.

  21. I'm sad 🙁 I couldn't do the star thing. My eyes seem to focus too quickly and it just resulted in me giving myself a headache 🙁 But I DO believe it works if I can get my brain to cooperate! haha 🙂

    1. I had to force myself to cross my eyes before I focused on the pictures. Then all of a sudden there was a third picture in the middle just like depicted. Crazy how the brain can work.

    1. it would have come in handy for me a couple days ago when I went to put gas in my brand new car for the first time, and realized I had no idea what side the tank was on lol

    2. My car doesn't have the arrow but the hose in the gas tank image tells me which side. Coincidence? Maybe but I'm using it as a reminder.

  22. I wish I would have know the tip about the eye drops when I was a kid. It would have been a less horrifing experience for me and my mom haha but all off these tips are great. I am really suprised at a lot of these.

    1. The only thing you have to worry about is making sure your children's eyes are clean first. All the eye crud gathers in that corner so putting eye drops there without cleaning can be bad. (At least that's what my pediatrician told me when I had to give pink-eye drops to my little one!)

    2. I am glad you made that note. I am an ENT nurse and our Dr. doesn't recommend doing this as the bacteria that is naturally on your skin even after cleaning the area can be very hazardous to your eyes and tear ducts and the general ENT area. Anything that you put into your eyes can get into you tear duct and throughout your system and I have seen a few cases of patients going blind because of this.

    3. Also, as a pharmacist, putting drops into the corner of the eye will not allow enough of the drug to treat the eye. Drugs are cleared through the tear duct in the corner of the eye. With most medications that are applied to the eye, you are advised to place a finger over the tear duct to allow the drug to stay on the eye.

    4. But then again, if faced with NO meication getting in the eye vs a much less anxiety filled, frustrating encounter that does work for myself…I used to have to be held down even at age 30+, because I couldn't tolerate anythg that close to or coming st my eye-even if I was doing it myself I couldn't do it. Now, no problem at all.

  23. SO AWESOME! I just used #29 because I was closing some browsers and I realized I closed the wrong one and I couldn't remember where I was (dang Pinterest) LOL And that tip helped!! THANKS!

  24. #74- Not all cars have this feature, unfortunately. I am guilt of constantly having to turn around when at a gas station. My dad gave me this tip: look at the gas gage. Using the side with the nozzle as a reference, pull up to any gas filling station as if you were pulling up to the one on the gage. Works for me every time!

    1. Actually, mine's the opposite. I tried this trick at the gas station and ended up having to turn around anyway!

  25. Thanks SO much for putting together this MEGA TIP LIST and sharing it with us!!! Truly appreciated and can't wait to try some of these!!

  26. The link for freezing the tomato paste isn't going to the right place. 🙁

Also, for chlorine-green hair, the best way to avoid it altogether is to soak your hair with tap/bath/hose water BEFORE getting into chlorine. Your hair will be saturated, thus unable to soak up chlorinated water.

    Thanks!

  27. If you install the 'where's my driod' app on your andriod, you can send and email to your phone number with the message 'wheres my driod' (or whatever you set it up to be) and it turns on the sound if it's off and then it won't stop ringing until you press 'phone found' on the phone.

  28. For #97, an addition is that if your button falls off and you don't have time (or talent) to sew it back on, strip a twist tie and use the metal inside to secure the button. Stick it through two of the button holes and the fabric and twist it in back, then cut off the extra metal and bend it over to keep it from scratching you. I once went for 4 months with a shirt button secured with just the inside of a twist tie because I kept forgetting to sew it back on. This works particularly well for dark buttons but it's unlikely that anyone will notice even on a white shirt.

  29. On your tip 31… the fish in dishwasher… Just an FYI! I worked for Maytag warranty and that can mess up your dishwasher and then it will not be covered under your warranty.

    1. Plus it does NOT work… we tried it when I was a kid and the fish was warm and RAW.

  30. I like to use press n seal instead of cupcake liners for drinks. prevents the bugs and dirt and also prevents spilled drink ifs knocked over

    1. Ashley, that is a great idea. My girls are always knocking their drinks over. I'll have to include that in my next 'Tip' post.

  31. Hi please tell me what Tea tree oil is some of my pans are in bad shape and would love to know how to clean them the right way. Thanks : )

    1. Tea tree oil can be found at most drug stores. It is usually where facial cleaners are stocked. Tea tree oil is also good for pimples. I don't know how to clean pans with it, though. I would guess dab a little on a towel and start wiping. It smells terrible so I would recommend not dumping on an entire bottle 🙂

  32. This blog is amazing. There are so many good ides on here and I know I will be trying most of them. Thank you!

  33. Hahahaha! I didn't even notice till someone else posted…I am curious as to what #58 was too <=o) Thank you for these tips. Some of them I am doing already (like the deviled eggs in a baggie trick) but there are a lot of things I could be doing.

  34. Great tips! Thank you. I also have a tip for you. Bacon that is sliced thin can be a pain trying to separate before frying. Remove the box but leave the plastic wrap and roll the bacon into a tube. Nice and tight. Unroll, then roll from the other side into a tube. Bacon will peel a lot more easily off itself.

  35. Thanks for the great tips! I can't wait to try the separate laundry basket idea. With 8 people in the household, I waste so much time sorting laundry. Hope it works for us!

  36. Oh my goodness…so overwhelmed with all these handy tips and tricks. Thanks so much for putting them all together for us.

  37. #79 might work in a pinch or emergency, but it can definitely be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. It can also cause a short and ruin your appliances, so I would use that with great caution.

  38. I have to say that when you are cooking popcorn, be very careful to watch the kernel you put in to test the oil. I would even remove it if it doesn't bloom quickly. We had a small kitchen fire started from a kernel I threw in to test and ended up exploding into a pot of flames within minutes.

All the other ideas are fabulous. Thank you!

  39. Thank you so much for this article; it's amazing how many of these things I never heard of! I will be following you from now on. 🙂

  40. For the commenter that said it's a myth, the elevator trick does work on most elevators I've used (ie school) for years, but only if I'm alone on the car to be courteous, thanks for the other tips.

  41. So many amazing tips!!! I'd like to return the favor…When you remove sheets put them all in one of the pillow cases so they don't get separated in the laundry basket then after you've washed, dried and folded them put the neatly folded stack in one of the pillow cases. All your sets are together and neatly stacked in the linen closet! No more searching for set pieces. Another trick I use is putting plastic bags in old wet wipe containers. Keep one in the car or under a sink for when you need a trash bag, a bag for loose items in the car or bags for the grocery store. Thank you again and hope you like these!

  42. To go with #35, I put my recipe card in a clear zip-top bag. It guarantees that my recipe won't get ruined by spills or splatters!

  43. Wow! This is truly a huge lists of tips for home and everything. Honestly, I haven't finish reading them all yet, but surely these are very helpful for me and my family.

  44. Something that I do is this….
When I get clothes hangers that have the clips on them I cut them off when I am done with the hanger (because they come on all my daughters clothes) and I use them to clip bags closed so that the food does not go stale.

  45. number 24 is EXTREMELY wasteful and lazy.. sorry.. it just is.. Who doesn't have 10 minutes to clean off the shelves in their fridge???

    1. Personally, I DESPISE cleaning the shelves in my fridge. Above cleaning toilets. I'll clean a toilet any dayover dishes and these shelves.

    2. Would be especially handy now that I have young grandkids to raise! I hate cleaning the fridge! Awesome list!

    3. Agreed..my fav tip too! If it's bc of the "environment"-well, the way I see it, you waste energy with the fridge open…and running water (if that's the way you clean them-mine get so bad I usually have to take everything off the shelf and take it completely off the hanger thing to clean it with hot soapy water. Pain in the BUTT!!!! I'm putting this stuff on my grocery list today! It's also good (I hear) for covering things like a door handle, top of the commode, etc. when you're painting.

    4. Miss Gentry, your comment was the height of rudeness. Why not just say thank you for the tips you DID enjoy and move on?

I honestly don't understand why folks think it's acceptable behavior to make negative and rude comments on Jaime's web site about the content she chose to provide for FREE (which no one is FORCED to look at, by the way).

I actually think #24 is a GREAT tip; and no, it's not wasteful or lazy if it saves time you can use for something more important! I like the idea because it will prevent me from having to clean crumbs and sticky messes off my shelves! Thank you Jamie for these AWESOME tips!

  46. 74 is not accurate. It has a fifty fifty chance of being so, but it is not a standard. I love the stickers in shoe hint!

  47. My mum cooked a huge salmon in their dishwasher, must be 20 years ago now! She's always been good at bright ideas like this. As I recall, everyone at the party was not only very complimentary but amazed that she did it!

  48. thanks for assembling so many tips in one spot! Although most I have read before, and quite a few i have been doing for years, it's funny how you forget about them if you've never had a reason to use them. a good memory jogger that i have bookmarked and shared. i never would have had the patience to make this list! Glad there are people like you to make others life run smoother. Always a nice feeling to share a good tip with someone. Keep up the good work :):):)

  49. Lots of great ideas! Some of them I having been using for years!
    Thanks and all the best!

  50. This was so much fun to read, thank you! I knew a lot of the tips, but some are absolutely brilliant. I find it sad that some folks feel compelled to post negative comments. Might I add something to #45? To prevent blonde hair from turning green from swimming pools, saturate your hair first with plain water. The hair shafts won't be able to absorb anything else.

  51. #26 is wasteful. Instead of folding 1/4"(!) over, just put the edge slightly offset. You will easily be able to find the edge, and it doesn't waste any tape.

    1. I prefer the fold. It doesnt get stuck to other things, so you would have to cut it off anyway.

  52. The gas yank one is wrong. Almost all cars these days have the tank on the side that the handle on the little picture of the gas pump is. And I have never seen an arrow on any car.

    1. My car's gas gauge has an arrow pointing to the side of the car where my tank is. So does my husband's. And my son's.

  53. Well #13 would have been great to know when I addressed and sealed all of my wedding invitations and then realized I never put the stamp on the RSVP….lol I just decided everyone could add their own stamp.

  54. I'll add a couple more (y'all can look it up, bc there'd be way too much to type here: TONS of uses for WD-40…one of my favorite uses was to remove carpenter bees (and then I stuffed the hole with steel wool)…also try spraying it on almost dry fingernails (and gently wash your hands) although the chemicals prob are bad for you so-do it at your own risk! Try chalk to get out grease stains…put a dryer sheet in your AC return to freshen up your home (or simply simmer some water and your choice of spices, ie cinnamon); put your baked on cruddy oven racks in a garbage bag with a little bit of ammonia, tie it up and let sit overnight- they will come totally clean! Can also do this on your gas stove burner thingies (whatever you call them); lookup homemade sugar wax and the technique for very CHEAP (although painful at first) diy home waxing..it def. Works!!!! I got sick of spending do much money on razors and who wants to shave nearly everyday (I used to have to).. But if you do use razors anyway, I hear dipping them in baby oil after you shave can save the blade longer.. OMG I could go on and on… I should stop here!

  55. Just my 2 cents about using the tic tac containers as pill case…. if you are carrying prescribed pills please carry them in the original bottle… I have known of people being charged with crimes because they couldn't prove that the medicine was prescribed to them….

  56. If your taking a trip in the car and we'll need to stop to eat a fun thing to do is camper stew, cooked on the manifold. Strap all the ingredients in personal size aluminum foil packages and tie them on. Unfortunately a lot of the newer cars are not easy or possible to do this.
