How You Can Use Baskets To Declutter Your Home

Baskets are so versatile! You can literally use them in any room of your home, and you can organize just about everything with them. Today I’m sharing several uses for baskets in all areas of the home, as well as a few links to my favorite basket find on amazon, to help you get your home and life organized.

1. Using vertical space. Many people don’t think of hanging baskets on the wall but it can be a great way to keep items organized. Hang a few by the door to organize mail and paperwork before it clutters up the counters. Use some in your pantry to store snacks, spices, or food containers. A couple in the closet can hold winter gloves and scarves, bras, purses and clutches. Or you can use them in your kids room to store and organize toys.

2. Organize your fridge. While my fridge organizing posts (you can find here and here) have been fairly popular, I once read a forum online where a bunch of women were bashing a couple bloggers for organizing their fridge. Saying things like “Who has time for that?”, “They are setting unrealistic expectations.”, and my favorite, “OMG!! Who cares what the inside of your fridge looks like, no one is going to see it anyways!” To all of the women on that forum (an to anyone reading this who has ever had similar thoughts about organizing your fridge.) I have one thing to say.. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

Using baskets in my fridge and freezer has been a total game changer for me. I have a recycled strawberry basket that is the perfect size for sliced cheese, and keeps it from sliding around in the drawer. A basket that holds healthy snacks for the kids. (Whatever is in the basket, they are allowed to eat as much as the want without asking. Everything else, they must ask first) And I have a few large baskets in my freezer to separate vegetables, fruits, and meats.

3. Large floor baskets. Large baskets are perfect for hiding large items and it is also a great way to keep those items off of the floor. You can use large baskets to store spare pillows and blankets. Keep one it your child’s room to hold their toys. Tuck a basket under a side table to keep yarn or other items for a project you are currently working on.

Baskets are also a great way to hide unsightly items such as office papers, toilet paper, or the hidden printer I shared in this post

And as promised, here are a few of my favorite basket finds on Amazon.

I would love to know how you use baskets in your home to help you stay organized. let me know in the comments.
